Although retired, Geore was one of the driving forces along with Eleanor in the effort to get the Upper Housatonic River declaared an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). He also wrote the visionary Scenic Mountains Act, a piece of legislation that was pushed through in 1974 and adopted in nearly a dozen Berkshire towns.
